about us
Artist Charlie Gunn is celebrating the sixth anniversary of her fine jewellery label cecil and gunn. Each piece in the cecil and gunn range is a unique creation of original art.
“I work by contrasting colour and texture. I work with bold stones, flowers, feathers and metal. These are my tools and the challenge of creating something new and unique from them every time is what gives me the greatest enjoyment. That and the knowledge that many people who have bought a piece consider it a personal object, not a piece of passing fashion.”
After completing her schooling Charlie lived in Rome, Italy where she could indulge her love of antiquities and ancient coins. Returning to Australia, Charlie studied journalism and worked in Interior Design. She then undertook further studies at RMIT in Fine Arts, majoring in sculpture. This path led her to jewellery. She has since completed a silver- smithing course.
Charlie creates necklaces, bracelets, earrings, belts, head pieces and brooches. Each piece is inspired by and evolves from colour, a curio, fabric or a beautiful stone.
Initially Charlie worked on a commission basis only, but as her work became public so too was the demand and this led her to limited retail sales in selected outlets. Despite increasing popularity, Charlie still remains true to her ideals of creating beautiful and unique hand made pieces. For those who have a cecil and gunn creation they have purchased an artwork that is also a unique and beautiful fashion statement.
Cecil and gunn pieces have been purchased by the likes of Chris Isaak , Cal Wilson, Ashley Appleby, Trelise Cooper, Mary Morton and Jennifer Keyte to name a few.
